Looking westward on the C&WC
Looking west you can see the concrete base for the westbound home signal for the former diamond. Wiring has been cut, but can be seen cut flush with the concrete. The old C&WC was operated by the Port Royal Railroad up until recently, now Coosaw entirely silent and the rails rusting.

Eugene Cain General SAL Diamond was removed late in 1967 after the merger. The SAL route south to Savannah remained in use through 1977. C&WC was sold to SC Ports Authority in 1985 and operated until the Port shut down in 2003. These tracks were torn up late in 2010. The Signal base is all that is left at this "Ghost Crossing" today. 10/22/2012 9:01:56 AM
