What signal was here?
OK, I think I may have an idea of what kind of signal was here. If it was anything like some old searchlight style signals right at the interlockings of diamonds at Cheraw (ACL) and Denmark (ACL) that I have seen in pictures, I would love to know what it was for. It couldnt have been just for diamond protection since this diamond had evidence of home signal protection around it.

Eugene Cain General This was a "Return to Train" Signal. SAL had them everywhere they crossed other lines. There was one also at Denmark, SC as you mentioned anairfax too. You can go and look in old SCL or even early CSX signal rulebooks and see the description for this signal....although they were phased out many years ago before CSX. In my SCL Rulebook...it is Rule 634 and it stated that at such interlockings, the Lunar indication from these signals allowed Engines to "Return to Train" just beyond the Interlocking. SCL began to Phase them out and as far as I know, they were all "Dead" by the time of CSX. They were left in place but unused. The one at Fairfax remained in place until late 1998 when it was removed. I never saw one lit Pretty sure that's what was here at Coosaw too. 4/17/2010 11:26:48 AM
